The most commonly asked question we and others in the gear industry are asked is “How do I work out the sizing for…”
So to be one step ahead we wrote this simple, but informative, article on motocross gear sizing. How it all is supposed to fit, how you are supposed to wear it, and why.
Read on to find out how you avoid wearing gear that doesn’t do the job it is meant to do!
Step #1 – Find your measurements
All sizing charts for MX gear (for men, women, and children) are based on either CM or Inch measurements.
So if you’re looking for gear for your 8-year-old, the answer is the same as for an adult male. Take his or her measurements to then associate the right size gear for them.
Remember that dirt bike gear is safety gear, so you want to make sure it fits correctly to ensure maximum safety.
Sizing help
We, and all the stores that we recommend, are here to make it easier for you to find the right fitting gear.
Often you’ll find keywords in the title of products. These are there to help you identify what gear you are looking at or searching for.
It can look like this:
- “Just the product title” = Then you are most likely looking at adult male-sized gear.
- “Women’s” = Female adult sizing. Women’s gear tends to be a smaller fit suiting women from early teens through to adults.
- “Kids” = Youth gear sizing. For a male rider from 4 years to early teens.
- “Girls” = Female youth gear sizing. For a female rider from 4 years to early teens.
- “Toddler” = For riders between 2 to 5 years.
MX Gear Sizing: Increment breakdown
Here’s a breakdown of measurements and how they stack up against each other:
- 1” (inch) = 2.54 cm (centimetres)
- 1 cm = 10 mm (millimeters)
- 1” = 25.4 mm
Motocross Gear Sets sizing
When it comes to your riding gear there are two body parts that need covering and two different size types.
- Pants – these are associated with Inch measurements
- Jerseys – these come in Small, Medium, Large, and so on sizes.
Even though motocross jerseys and pants have different types of sizing, they are manufactured to be paired up. Meaning, each size of pants has a jersey size to match.
Down below we show you the standard size match. This is helpful if you already know your pant size or jersey size.
Note: most kid’s clothing is assigned to an age – whereas motocross gear is based on measurements.
We cannot stress enough how much better the gear will fit if you take the rider’s measurements!
